Ethereal Maison & BLUE HOUR Studio
For both Ethereal Maison and Blue hour studio I utilised the same core piece, 'Apprehensive Erotica', a mobile featuring panels depicting moments of intimacy interlaced with gore and horror aesthetics. I wanted to portray the vulnerability that comes through intimacy.
Ethereal Maison was a curated exhibition littered with spoken poetry and live performance; for this an old fashioned home, complete with a cat was transformed into an exhibitive space.
Similarly, Blue Hours studio was held at the infamous Safehouse 2, a dilapidated house utilised often for exhibitions and events.

The question I pose to myself and others is, ‘How can surreal fantasy be used as a lens to view reality; utilising tactility and immersion’. The utilisation of fantasy in order to immerse the viewer is something I utilise often within my work, it aids me personally through recontextualising events and thought processes; a tool to understand a complicated reality.
My work is split into two definable segments, the first Embedded into our skin; nature and nurture is an exploration into the psychology behind nature vs nurture, exploring who, what and where we come from that plays an effect on our most definable traits. This research lead to the creation of an existential video, and ethically created map armour.
The second segment, Incubating a fantasy ; escaping reality through a fantasy follows the thread of utilising fantasy as a means to recontextualise reality and explores how escapism can be used as a tool to process. Delving into trauma and how artists often commodify their tragedies. I ask what are the morals surrounding escapism and whether in a world filled with turmoil it is ethical to detach from reality. This segment led to the creation of an interactive sculpture in the form of a touch sensitive egg, aiming to create a sense of rebirth
Nature or nurture (an existential brain spiral) Salma and Patty are my conduits of existential questioning, they pose questions that I could only hope to scratch the surface of. They add a more frantic set of existential questions with the intention of overwhelming the viewer to question, ‘Do we mimic our parental figures' behaviour through learning? Or are these inherited traits we possess, etc. They are almost parasitic in nature hoping to make the viewer think of brain worms; the concept of a recurring maddening thought that sends us spiralling. They are a result of my research into the psychology and ethics surrounding Nature and Nurture.
